Still getting some snow peas in our victory garden here and there! 👨🌾Wonder how long we can grow peas for in Zone 6b?  Managed to harvest just a bit more of summer for @ftndurham 20 lbs of butternut squash, beets, zucchini, beefsteak tomatoes, and kale (not shown) 🍅🥒🥦 Yay mealworm frass for giving our veg a leg up! 🐛 Please help fight hunger in your community! 😀  Perhaps beets are an acquired taste, even for mealworms! 🌱🐛We were pleased to provide @torontowildlifecentre with ~12500 mealworms this week 😀Please support their mission to save wildlife! 🦇🦎🐦  Reinventing "recycled art" 🎨Zach made a potato turkey for school last Canadian Thanksgiving 🦃He liked it so much he kept it for weeks, and it ended up shriveling and sprouting 🌱Instead of getting composted, it got chopped up and potted in soil for fun. By March, just in time for coronavirus lockdown, we had a cool potato plant that we named Steve. Then, we thought Steve should come out of quarantine and get to hang out with some new potato plant friends in our victory garden. 🌿Steve had a great summer, and to our surprise this weekend, he ended up making three tender new versions of himself! Yum! 🥔😋🥔😋🥔  Please mask up and save lives. Baby butternut squash met an early end, but those around you don't have to! 😷#wearamask #butternutsquash  At least we got visually appealing beet leaves even though we grew weird bulbs! 🤩  Who knew wax beans had cool red and white beans on the inside? 🌱🙂🌱 Always fun seeing mealworm frass turn into neat things 🐛😀  A big thank you to Dr. Carlos de Sousa's office at @oshawaclinicgroup for making the effort to collect so many markers and pens for recycling even in the midst of the pandemic! 🖊️😀🖊️We really, really appreciate Jessica's support in reminding everybody to bring in their used writing instruments. ✍️😄✍️  Over 51 lbs of fresh produce for @ftndurham this past week 😄 A nice end to the summer growing season for our victory garden!!! We harvested zucchini (4 lbs), cucumbers (0.75 lbs) beefsteak tomatoes (6.5 lbs), cherry tomatoes (5 lbs), & winter squash (35 lbs) 🍅🥒🍅🥒🍅This has been our biggest haul for the season! 😀  |
