Veggie scrap growing gone wrong. 🥦😕🥦😕🥦Re-grew this celery...and it's all leaves, hardly any stalk. 🌿🌿🌿Would it be mean to give it to our dad as a houseplant for Father's Day?
Huge thank you to @JuliePayettePS for their contribution markers for recycling!♻️😁♻️ Very much appreciated!😀
Giving tomato plants a great start with our mealworm frass. 🌱🍅🌱 Scientifically based! "frass has a great potential to be used as a partial or a complete substitute for mineral NPK fertilizer" https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-61765-x
So an update on our recycled veggie scraps: leek cuttings at different stages of regrowth. Leeks in the glass container were on window sill. Three on the left were later transferred potting soil. And check out the regrown leek cuttings in the grow bag! Thought they wouldn't survive because we just threw them out in the cold several weeks ago after Mom got worried about bugs in the house. Tasted just as good as the originals! 😋
Living the good life! Donated ~10,000 locally-grown mealworms to Toronto Wildlife Centre this week. We love their work! 🤩🐇🦔🦇
Happy 50th Earth Day! A little self-isolation green project...regrowing veggies from kitchen scraps! 🥕🌱Brings a little joy to watch something grow, reminds us about food waste and how to be more sustainable, and -- on this particular Earth Day -- gets us thinking about the sacrifice of those who grow food and make it available to us.🙂
Our hearts go out to Hillsdale Terraces, who have been great Operation EcoPen partners from the very beginning, during this COVID-19 crisis. Sending our best wishes to those affected and hoping for a speedy recovery. 😥
